The making.

Since its founding, Bergez has remained faithful to a single model: an atelier of natural materials, worked by hand in Belgium. Freedom in choosing the material, patience in the making, and objects finished for use, that is the uniqueness of the maison.

Freedom of making

Each design begins with what moves the hand. No season dictates the form. The piece is ready when the material says so.

The finest materials

Wool, sheepskin, leather and suede are chosen for grain, weight and feel. Variation is kept. Nothing is asked to pretend.

Transmission

Gestures are learned, repeated and passed on in a working room, not on a line. Skill stays with the people who make.

Aesthetics of use

Details exist for the life of the object: seams set for decades, finishes that soften in the hand, forms meant to be lived with.

An atelier, not a line.

Bergez is made in a working room of natural materials, tools and time. There is no conveyor, only a sequence of decisions taken one piece at a time, in Ruiselede.

Panels are shaped to the hide. Seams are set for decades of use. Colour and grain are left as they arrive. What might look like irregularity elsewhere is, here, the proof that the material was respected.

The goal is not perfection in the industrial sense. It is presence: an object that feels alive in the hand, and that will still feel alive years from now.

Materials

What we work with.

Natural sheepskin for warmth and grain. Wool for structure and quiet underfoot. Leather and suede that soften with use. Selected textiles where a piece asks for them. Each is finished honestly, without plastic coatings that fake softness.

Sheepskin

Breathable, insulating, unique hide to hide. The surface that ages rather than wearing thin.

Wool

Chosen for hand and lasting structure, rugs, throws and seating that hold their presence.

Leather & suede

Selected for grain and feel. Patina is welcome: darker where hands rest, softer where it folds.

Christine Marie Bergez

She has spent a life with wool, leather and natural textiles. Not chasing trends, but listening to what a material wants to become.

“I choose my fabrics, colours and leathers by feeling, not formula. Each design begins with what moves me in the hand.”

Born and rooted in Belgium, she founded Bergez as an answer to a market that produces too much, and keeps too little.

Objects are not invented.
They are chosen.

Every Bergez piece is a conversation between material and maker, finished when it is ready, not when a calendar says so.
